CEPA and UN-Decade "Education for Sustainable Development": Global Initiatives on Biodiversity and Education.
Based on the results and resolutions of the World Summit on Sustainable Development 2002 in Johannesburg for fostering education, the UN General Assembly has decided to establish a UN Decade “Education for Sustainable Development” from 2005 to 2014. The CBD is supporting the UN-Decade through its global initiative on education and public awareness CBD-CEPA (Communication, Education, Public Awareness).
The panel discussion with international experts focuses on the exchange of experiences between the UN-Decade and CBD-CEPA and stakeholders involved in education. The discussion aims at highlighting the linkages between sustainable development, the conservation of biological diversity and the promotion of education and communication. Furthermore joint perspectives as well as synergies between the UN-Decade and the CBD-CEPA process will be showcased.
